Speaking on NTV on Tuesday, Sifuna recounted how young supporters had to intervene during a recent rally in Kakamega to prevent serious harm, emphasizing that attempts to intimidate or obstruct his movement will no longer succeed, describing it as “unstoppable.”

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has issued a stern warning to individuals being used to disrupt political activities, saying their actions are extremely dangerous and could even be fatal.

Speaking on NTV on Tuesday, Sifuna recounted how young supporters had to intervene during a recent rally in Kakamega to prevent serious harm, emphasizing that attempts to intimidate or obstruct his movement will no longer succeed, describing it as “unstoppable.”

Sifuna described the lengths to which state operatives allegedly went to prevent the rally, including monitoring commercial flights and attempting to disrupt his team’s travel.

“If it wasn’t for those young people, we wouldn’t even have shown up in Kakamega, because the machinations of the state were to ensure that the meeting does not happen,” he said.

He detailed how, despite bookings on commercial flights, state actors allegedly leaked their movements, prompting his team to arrange alternative transport and sneaky travel routes to reach the rally.

Sifuna also recounted how supporters intervened to save two men who were severely beaten by unidentified individuals at the event, emphasizing the life-threatening risks involved.

The senator then issued a warning to anyone used to disrupt political activities. “It is very dangerous for you. You can actually be killed. If it wasn’t for us saving the lives of those two young, they would have been killed,” he said.

He underlined that his movement is now unstoppable and that attempts to undermine it through intimidation or disruption would no longer succeed.

Sifuna also stressed the broader responsibility of political leadership to remain accountable and responsive to the people.

“One of the things that we appreciate as leadership is that we have a responsibility to also explain ourselves, explain our actions, explain our vision. We can’t just be saying things. We need to show up for Kenyans,” he said.

The senator’s remarks come as the Directorate of Criminal Investigations investigates an incident of mob violence that took place during the Saturday rally in Kakamega.

Authorities reported that George Olande Otobe, also known as Omundu, was killed after allegedly stabbing a local resident, which triggered a violent reaction from bystanders.

A knife was recovered at the scene, and Otobe’s body was initially taken to Vihiga County Referral Hospital mortuary. The postmortem revealed that he died from multiple severe head injuries consistent with mob violence. His body was later transferred to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary for preservation.
